How to Grow Edelweiss:
The kit contains everything you need to start cultivation. Once the plant grows, you can transplant it directly with the biodegradable peat pot, into a larger pot, or in the garden during spring season. The pot will degrade over time, becoming part of the soil.
Edelweiss grows in Pirin, Rila, and Stara Planina in Bulgaria and it is classified as one of the endangered species in the Red Book of Bulgaria!
1. Place the package with Edelweiss seeds in the fridge for a week (simulating winter). When you take it out and plant the seeds, they will sense that it's time to sprout.
2. Spread the seeds on the surface of the soil and spray them gently with water. Do not cover them with soil, as they need light.
3. Germination usually takes 1 to 3 weeks. Keep the surface moisturized (covering with transparent foil until sprouting is a good idea).
4. When it reaches 2-3 cm in height, transplant the plants into larger pots, 3 or 4 in one pot if you wish. Do not overwater but do not let it dry out. The flower prefers well-drained, sandy soil. We recommend cactus substrate.
5. It loves the sun but not extreme heat. Still, it grows high in the mountains, so the closer to high altitude conditions we can create, the better.
6. The Edelweiss blooms from June to September. Have patience. Edelweiss is slow-growing, usually flowering in the second year after planting.
7. In March-April, you can take it outside if you planted it indoors earlier. Planting directly in the garden is best to be done in the Spring.
8. It's important to know that during winter outdoors, Edelweiss leaves dry up. Do not tear them down. They serve as natural protection against the cold. In the Spring, they will sprout again.
